I’m not sure when it happened, but I’ve turned into a pretty prolific songwriter. I do a lot of writing and recording in my bedroom, which is a lot of fun, and very rewarding. But its also an exercise in frustration, because I have a pile of finished songs just sitting around waiting to be released. I’m really proud of these songs, and it saddens me to think that it may be years before anyone hears them, by which point I’ll have grown tired of them. So tonight when I finished this song, I decided to take a stand! Which is why you can now listen to it hear and download it here.
I went to a friend’s wedding on the weekend, and was surprised by how much it touched me. My icy heart was melted and I spent the whole weekend gushing like an idiot about how beautiful it was to see two people really come together. Why are weddings so special? We live in a time when you don’t need to be married to live together, or to plan for the future. My friend who got married has lived with his now wife for years so, practically, nothing is going to change after they get married. But watching them stand up in front of a room full of people and say their vows? Damned if it didn’t wallop me right in the emotional part of my brain.
When I got home yesterday, I decided to try my hand at writing a song that captured that feeling. I thought it would be nice to write a very simple love song that could be used as a first dance at somebody’s wedding, or something. So I wrote it, and recorded it, and here it is.
This is just a home recording, so don’t expect much quality wise. If you have headphones, you should probably listen with them. If you have good speakers, even better! Basically, this song needs all the help it can get to sound good. But I’m happy with how it turned out, and I think I succeeded in capturing the mood that I set out to capture. And, if you can listen to this song with somebody you love, even better.
I hope you like it.
